NEW ATTRACTIONS

SCHEDULES IN FORTNIGHT

The Poverty Bay Winter Show Association is endeavouring to incorporate every possible innovation in this year’s effort in order to make the function as attractive as possible. Special attention is to be given to the dog section, which will be housed in an entirely 'Separate portion of the building.

Arrangements were carried to a further stage at a meeting of the committee last night, and ffrom a review of the position to date it appears that the public will, be assured of four days of interesting and entertaining Winter Show attractions.

It was reported last night that the schedule had been revised thoroughly, many new Classes being included. The schools section had received a thorough overhaul, with the resuLt that the classes would be based on the new schemes of work being carried out in the schools.

The dog section, which 'had proved highlv popular at past shows, was not included last year. A delegation from the Poverty Bay Kennel Club waited on the committee expressing its wish to show in conjunction with the 1939 Winter Show. After considering the conditions put forward by the delegation it was decided to ask the Kennel Club’s committee to inspect the downstairs portion of the building, and if that were suitable to allow it to use it for the dog show. The request that the Club be .allowed to Show on the laslt day, Saturday, was granted. National dancing wag also expected to be another interesting feature once more, and with interesting and varied classes heavy entries were looked for. Numerous additional special prizes had been received for a number of classes, and an endeavour was made to eater for all persons in one section or another. Lay-out of Hall The lay-out of the Gisborne sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat and Mercantile Company’s hall in Nesbitt road was found .extremely suitable for the Winter Show last year, and the committee agreed to make an even greater effort to add to the facilities provided and to make the 1939 show the most successful in the association’s history. Schedules were in course of preparation, and would be printed in time for distribution during the coming fortnight. It was agreed to display in some suitable place the association's collection of trophies. It v/as agreed that included in the special prize awards this year would be a cash prize of £2 2s for the competitor gaining most points in sections D and F, home industries and needlework and crafts. Competitors must compete in both sections. A cup has been presented by Mr. C. S. Swain for the best fruit cake, the cup to be won outright if held for two years in succession or for three years at intervals. The following committees were appointed:—Hall committee, Mr. D. H Whitton, convener, Mesdames A. Baillie, E. S. Rcdfearn, and R. Keiha, Messrs. J. A. Eivcrs, G. W. Armstrong, A. Baillic, and J. L. Bellerby; advertising, Messrs.
