For assistance in bringing overseas athletes to New Zealand tin 1940 and to cover 'the risk of loss on the national championships in the same year, the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association is to apply for a grant of up ito .CIOOO from the centennial combined sports art union. This decision was reached by the council of ’the association at its monthly meeting last, night. The president, Mr. R. W. McVillv, was in. the chair. The secretary, Mr. 11. McCormick,

said that the council would have to make its application to participate by March 31. The Otago centre had applied for a grant to cover a centennial sports meeting, the New Zealand cross-country championships and regular evening meetings. Other applications were from the Wairoa club and the Auckland centre. The Canterbury centre had sent an inquiry. Money from the art union should be available for allocation within, a month.

No reply had been received from the United) States to the council’s invitation. to send' a team, Mr. McCormick reported, and there was no further woixl from, Canada or South Africa. Reinstatements were granted E. J. Laning (Thames), J. L. Geddes (Dunedin), and J. O’Leary (Kotuku). The council declined an application for reinstatement from J. Hill (Westport).
