SWIM OF 440 YARDS
What was believed to be a record swim for a child of her years was accomplished at the Hamilton Municipal Baths by a six-years-old girl, Mary McW'hannell, of the Ngahinapouri School, when she swam over 440yd'S during the progress of a le.nrn-to-swim week programme, in which other pupils of the school were taking part. She was not a learner, but swam for her 220yds certificate. Marv is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. McWhannell, o-f Ngahinapouri, and a niece of the late Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor, the famoui' war flyer, who was killed at Rongotai aerodrome on February 19. 193(3.
