Counsel in a case in the Invercargill Magistrate's Court received a reply from a witness that he did not expect. "What experience have you had in driving motor vehicles?” he asked. “Well,” said tire witness, “I was a dispatch rider during the war, and I was a staff driver in the army for 13 years. I was also a chauffeur in America for several years— —At this point counsel stopped the witness with a rueful smile. “I think you started something there,” was the comment of the magistrate, Mr. Pt. C. Abcrncthy.
