SCHOOL SWIMMERS CERTIFICATES AWARDED (Herald Correspondent.) A large contingent from the Tolaga Bay 'School visited Te Puia on Saturday with a view to obtaining swimming certificates. The party was in charge of Messrs. McCullough, Webber and llortbn. Miss Methven, and (Mrs. Askinbeck, and Mrs. McCullough. Certificates were won as follows: 880vds. Girls: (L. Kelly. Boys: B. and *R. Donald, R. ‘Thompson, H. Holder, W. Lincoln ,and M. Graham. 220yds.—Girls: K. Baker and L. Glover. Boys: B. Grey, B. Laurence, P. Lougher, J. Harries, E. Haere, J. M-ct Nab, G. Lockwood, D. Nukunuku and T. Turere. 50yds.—Girls: J. Gordon, M. Pollard, V. McGuinness, L. Lonigan, J. Higgs, and H. Roi. Boys: A. Cranswick, T. 'Dever, E. Kelly, N. McNamara, F. Lincoln, J. Glover, C. Farewell Party ;A farewell party of an impromptu nature was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Weeks, Wharekaka, in honour o;f Mr. and Mrs. Reg. Scholium and Mr. B. 'Colman. Mr. .and Mrs. Weeks and Miss Phyllis Weeks | received their guests, who spent a pleasant evening playing games. Prizes were won by Mrs. Scholium, Miss Martin and Mr. Hyland. Mr. Weeks wished the travellers good luck and prosperity. A buffet supper was served. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Scholium, Miss Lottie Scholium, Mrs: Ames; Misses S. Martin, P. (Hurlstone, D. and P. Rennie; Messrs. Colman, Ensor, McCallum, Hayes, Goodall and Hyland. Women’s Division The February meeting of the Manga-tuna branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the school house, there being present Mrs. H. Hale, president, Mrs. Puhipr.ihi. secretary, Mesdames Eaton, Hvde. and' Hinemarsh. The hostesses were Mesdames Eaton, and Hyde. A knitting competition was won by Mrs. Hyde, with Mrs. Hale second. The secretary was instructed to write a letter of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mrs. C. U. O’Connell, founder of the branch. : The February meeting of the Tolaga Bay branch took place in the Parish Hall, those present being Mrs. A. Donald. president. Mrs. Appleton, secre-
fary. Mesdames Thornton. Benham. Graham. Bullard, Norris, Marsh and Kain. The president spoke feelingly of the death of Mrs. C. U. O'Connell. A welcome was extended to a new member. Mrs. A. Norris. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on April 1. A discussion took place as to ho-w to occupy the time between business and afternoon tea. Three suggestions were made, that instruction be given in ambulance work, that lectures be arranged, and that members come to each meeting prepared to read or speak on some given subject. The hostesses were Mesdames Bullard and' Benham. Rugby Union At a meeting of the committee of the Tolaga Rugby Union those present were Messrs. McCullough, chairman, R. Hayes, G. Goodley, O. Olsen, and R. Carpendale, secretary. It was decided to hold the general meeting on the last day of March and to ask affiliated clubs to hold their meetings before then.
