NEW ZEALAND FAT LAMBS
AUSTRALIAN ATTITUDE UNABLE TO COMPETE The opinion that Australia would not compete with New Zealand in the fat lamb industry was expressed by Mr. L. L. B. Campbell, a member of an Australian tourist party at present in the North Island. This statement supports the contention of Mr. Donald Cameron, who returned to his home in Poverty Bay after several years in Australia, Mr. Cameron maintaining that New Zealand had such a good start over Australia that the Commonwealth should never be able to pick up on New Zealand’s supremacy in the fat lamb trade.
“Your fat lamb industry is a thing in which Australia cannot compete," stated Mr. Campbell, when interviewed in Wellington. “We have fat lambs, but not in the same class as yours. Your Southdown - Romney crossbreds are beautiful animals.”
