SECOND SERIES BEGINS The Poverty Bay Central Homing Pigeon Society flew its first race of the second young bird series from Napier on Saturday. There were excellent entries, and the weather conditions were fair. The winner was T. Crosby's bird, which clocked in at 1.30 p.m. IDs flying time was 2hr. 30min. The results in detail were: T. Crosby’s bird, 970.7yds per min., 1; J. McLean’s bird, 954.2yd5, 2; J. McLean’s bird. 954yds, 3; R. Hall’s bird, 948.6yd5, 4; T. Crosby’s bird, 945.9yd5, 5; D. Somervell’s bird, 943.1yd5. 6: M. Royd’s bird, 941.5yd5, 7; C. Waldock’s bird, 938yds, 8. Birds entered by M. Cook, T. Charles and A. O’Neill also competed. Next week a race will be flown from Takapau and the north young bird championship will be held from Tauranga.
MAKARAKA CLUB “SINGLE-lir” RACE (TlfivaM Correspondent.) The Makaraka Racing Pigeon Club held its fourth “single-up” race from Nuhiaka over the week-end, R. Evans bird winning from’ W. Marshalls pigeon by 28sec. The winner’s time was 51 min. 40sec. Results: —R. Evan’s blue chequer, 1008yds per min., 1; W. Marshall’s blue bar, lOOOvds per man., 2; W. Marshalls blue bar, - 1000yds per min., 3: t>. McLean’s pied, 992ydS, per min., 4. Other bird's to clock in were from flic lofts of J. Martin, T. Crosby. T. .Tonasen, A. McDonnald and C. Jackson. A meeting will be held on Wednesday night to decide where the next race will be from.
