CRECHE MANAGEMENT

STREET APPEAL RESULT MATRON COMPLIMENTED The recent street appeal on behalf of the Heni Materoa Children's Home (ereclhe) yielded £36 3s Id, it was reported to a meeting a', the CookCounty Women's Guild, held at the home, when Mrs. H. A. Angel 1 presided over a large attendance of members, including Mcsdames A. E. Beer, A. F. Hall, I. J. Quigley, J. E. Newton, T. Munrb, W. Neal, J. W. Fergie, A. Sealy, W. M. Jenkins, H. Gilmer, J. Williams, H. Holmes, H. W. T. Buckley, and the matron, Miss Spooner. Accounts for payment passed totalled £sl 7s lid.

Gifts received gratefully by the domiruttee included £5 from the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Colema.n, M.P., 12s from the Y.W.CiA. coimmiittee, Earl's Camp, a box of soap from Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Company, Ltd., toys from, the D.A.C. management, an order for groceries from Mr. P. W. Bushnoll, and a £lO drapery order from the Melbourne Cash management.

The guild also extended its hearty thanks to the general public for the support accorde'd to the street appeal. In her report the- matron mentioned that the home now contained 25 children, all being well and happy. Mesdames W. M. Jenkins and W. Neal were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. The chairman referred to the happy relations which existed between the committee and Miss Spooner, the matron, and to the regret with which the committee had learned that it was to lose her services. Mrs. Angell said that all committee members were aware thai Miss Spooner was leaving her post to be married, and that all would join in wishing her the greatest happiness. Mrs. Angell then presented Miss Spooner with a gift from the guild, in the shape of a silver sandwich dish, inserted suitably. Mrs. Beer also took the opportunity to voice the committee's best wishes to the retiring matron, and Miss Spooner, acknowledging the presentation and good wishes, thanked the committee for the help which she had received from all members.
