GERMAN COAL SHORTAGE
FIVE-YEAR PLAN NEEDS SELF-SUFFICIENCY. AIM (Reed. Dec. 30, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 29. The Berlin correspondent, of the Daily Telegraph says that a press announcement that persons holding winter relief fund coal coupons for December will not be able to obtain supplies before January is the first official admission that Germany is suffering from an acute coal shortage. The reason is the enormously increased demands by industry in order to keep up the pace for the four-year-plan. Germany’s desire for self-sutti-ciency in petrol is also absorbing millions of tons annually for the extraction of by-products.
