Brilliant, sunshine favoured the second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting at Ellerslie yesterday. Tne attendance was 14,000. The track was fast. The totalisator handled .£57,808, compared with £50,45,'} on the second day last year, an increase of £7415. In the straight Te Hero was challenged but dropped out, and the issue was keenly decided between Smoke Screen and Stretto, the former prevailing by half a head, with Gay Son a neck away. At the near distance Gay Rose and Homily challenged, and a little later Valamite, and Mazir made efforts. In a spectacular finish the first six horses passed the post in very close order, victory going to Royevrus by half a head from Paddy the Rip, with a similar margin to Homily. Mazir was fourth. A furlong from home, Palustre came through on the inside to win by a neck from Llangollen, who was separated by a head liom Mon Acre. Royal Bachelor was fourth.
