AUSTRALIA’S DEFENCE QUERY IN COMMONS (Reed. Dec. 22. 3 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. In the House of Commons to-day the Parliamentary Secretary for the Admiralty, (Mr. G. IT. Shakespeare, replying to a question by LI.-Commander R. T. TI. Fletcher (Lab., Nuneaton), said it was not in the public interest to disclose the future disposition of British warships at Singapore. Iff.-Commander Fletcher: Is the Admiralty satisfied that in event of capital ships \ becoming necessary for the defence of Australia. Britain will be able to provide them? Mr. Shakespeare: The Australian Minister of Naval, Military and Air Defence, Mr. G. A. Street, accurately stated the position at Canberra on December (J in announcing the allocation of £20.000.000 for naval defence.
