LEN HUTTON
A THRIFTY CRICKETER BUSINESS ACUMEN Like Bradman, whose world record he beat in the last test in England, Len. Hutton, the Yorkshire opening batsman, is possessed of considerable business acumen. Hutton does' not hesitate in saying that he is thrifty. In an article in the London “Sunday Graphic and Sunday News” Hutton writes: To-day 1 cherish the ambition of saving a useful four-figure bank balance before reaching the age of 30. “Yes, I am thrifty. Who can blame me? Moving about in the sporting world provides a good education, especially in regard to the importance of saving money. “Cricket as a career can be both healthy and remunerative. In the matter of benefits, 1 am happy to say, the Yorkshire players are particularly well supported by the public. "It is on record that George Hirst, whose advice has been invaluable to me, received £3703 in 1004 and a £7OO testimonial 17 years later. Wilfred Rhode’s benefit in 1911 totalled £2222, while' the late Toy Kilner received £4010.” |
