EXPENSES IN TENNIS
PAYMENT TO PLAYERS PROPOSAL IN BRITAIN (Reed. Dec. 3, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 1. The tennis correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, Wallis Myers, discussing tlie proposal to legalise the payment of expenses to competitors in open tournaments, which is being considered by the Lawn Tennis Association on December 9, declares it should not be difficult to agree to a formula whereby a player would be allowed to compete at any sanctioned tournament and to receive such hospitality as the committee was able to arrange. He adds: “The belief that it is necessary to make championship tennis a whole-time occupation is fallacious.”
