BRITISH SAVINGS TOTAL The combined total for money held by the British Post Office Savings Bank and the Trustee Savings Banks and for money invested in National Savings Certificates on August 31 was £1,453,000,000, the largest ever recorded. This was disclosed by Lord Mottistone, chairman of the National Savings Committee, speaking on behalf of the National Savings Movement. The total for August was larger than that lor the corresponding period last year by over £57,000,000, and compared with the total for 10 years ago showed an increase of approximately £350,000,000.
