SHORTAGE OF FEED

NORTHERN DISTRICTS DROP IN STOCK PRICES The lack of good spring rains has been responsible for very little growth in feed this season in North Auckland, and the conditions are reflected in the drop in prices for stock at northern sales during the past month. When the rains come it is expected that prices will tend to harden.

Dairy cattle showing quality and in good condition are still finding a ready market, but there is no demand tor backward and inferior sorts. The fewer cows that are being milked and 'he shortage of teed is reflected in the lowered output of the butter factories in the district.

A number of pigs now on the market lack finish on account of t he lower dairy production and, as fat and forward pigs are coming forward in fair numbers, the price realised is below that of the same time last year.

Store cattle are still slack, and it is not expected that the market will improve until the iced is plentiful. On account of shearing operations the sheep market is dull. The weather has been fine for shearing, and there has been little delay on this account. The weight of vvool ofT the sheep is not up to expectations in a number of districts.
