MUSICIANS’ UNION FIRM

MENUHIN MUST JOIN REPLY TO VIOLINIST (Reed. Nov. 2, 3 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 1. The Governors of the Musicians Union have ruled that the violinist Yehudi Menuhin, who declined to join the American Guild of Musical Artists must become a member before playing a symphony. They issued a statement containing a list of many prominent members and commenting that these artists do not feel that membership degraded art and limited freedom of expression.

“We are afraid that Menuhin is influenced by bad advice,” the statement continues. “We cannot make an exception because we must protect his less fortunate fellow artists who need the organisation.

It is rumoured that Menuhin may ■cconsider his decision.
