WHITEHALL PURGE PRESSURE BY FACTION RESHUFFLE OF POSTS POSSIBLE RESIGNATION ILL-HEALTH OF STANLEY (Eler. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 12, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON. Oct. 11. The Australian Associated Press says there are serious fears that the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Lord Stanley, will resign from the Cabinet on account of ill-health. The resignation would leave two vacancies, the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. A. Dutr Cooper, having resigned on October 1 as a result of his disagreement with the Cabinet's foreign policy. It is considered likely that in filling the posts, the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, will considerably reshuffle the Cabinet, possibly bringing in one or two complete newcomers.
It is known that a powerful section of the Conservatives is pressing for the elimination of several Cabinet members, who are regarded as unsuitable. The section is said to consider that the time is opportune for a ourge.
