APPEAL FOR OXFORD
FUNDS FOR UNIVERSITY RESPONSE BY PUBLIC OVER £460,000 DONATED (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 3. The public appeal for Oxford University was closed on Saturday last, July 31. Apart from Lord Nuffield’s major benefactions, which included £IOO,OOO to build and equip a new physical chemistry laboratory, the grand total received from all sources up to July 20 was £403,121. ■ The University’s programme, for which the turn subscribed will be devoted, included extensions to the Bodleian Library and the Ashmolean Museum and the establishment of a centre for study of the social sciences, physical chemistry laboratory equipment. alteration to the old Clarendon laboratory and £30,000 towards rebuilding the physiology laboratory. The next stage of the university’s programme included .a new laboratory for botany and the completion of the physiology and geology laboratories, which can be undertaken as soon as funds are available.
