Meanwhile an intense anticyclone covers south-eastern Australia and is moving, eastwards. Forecast.—Winds light to moderate and variable, with east to north predominating at first, but a change to strong southerlies or south-easterlies advancing from the south and covering most of the country within 24 hours. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough to rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising except south of Farewell Spit. In the eastern Tasman strong southerly winds reaching gale force in places. Seas rough. Weather cloudy to overcast from Auckland northwards with intermittent rain, elsewhere fair to fine at first but later rain becoming widespread, especially in eastern and northern districts. Temperatures becoming cold again, with snow in places. To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported at Auckland this morning, but overcast and unsettled conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light northerly breezes were blowing north of East Cape and light to moderate southerlies further south. The barometer had continued the falling movement.
