POISONED BY TUTU

When a mob of 2000 sheep was being driven from Motu to Opotiki, via the Meremere Hill, 50 of the sheep suffered from poisoning as a result of eating tutu leaves. The drover bled the sheep, but four of them succumbed to the poison. Shortage of feed on the road apparently caused the sheep to eat the poisonous leaves, and it is probable that the animals will remain hungry until they reach the roadsides on the Rangitaiki Plains.
