Fire in a haystack belonging to Mr. T. Kirk, Hawera, set fire to a boxthorn fence, which in turn melted the lend on a telephone cable, damaging the conductors. The result was that, about 150 subscribers in the Normanby and Okaiawa districts were cut off from communication with Hawera.
