The defendants were oach charged with converting the car to their own use and with driving without licenses Senior-Sergeant Macnamara said that the youths had taken turns at driving. They went up Kaiti Hill, lost control, and the vehicle went over the bank on the way down. They took the damaged car to a garage. Mr. Burnard sad that the boys knew the owner of the car well, but had taken it without authority. They took it to the garage with a view to getting it repaired and had received a shock when they learned that it would cost them £SO. They went away in an at' tempt to achieve a double object of getting away in the meantime and getting work so that they would be able to pay for the repairs. Both boys had been punished and were being made to pay off the money.
