RED TRIANGLE DAY

TO-MORROW'S APPEAL

GISBORNE Y.M.C.A

At an early hour to-morrow morning the Gisborne Young Men's Christian Association, aided by & large band of willing helpers, will launch its annual appeal for funds in Gisborne and the surrounding district. The directors of the association makes an urgent request to all who are interest, ed in the work to respond with similar generosity to that which has been accorded the appeal in past years. The Y.M.C.A. has worked amongst the youth of the community continuously for the past 18 years and during that period the public, by their response to former appeals, have shown their practical appreciation of the work that has been accomplished. The association has shown itself ready to meet all needs of youth in times of prosperity and in times of economic stress. Its programme is fourfold in character, embracing the spiritual, mental, physical and social development of its membership. The local association is catering for a'.i. increasing membership in a building totally inadequate to meet the needs of a town the size of Gisborne, particularly now when such emphasis is 'being placed on physical health and recreation.

Chairman's Letter

Any money raised by the Gisfoome Y.IM.C.A. is used exclusively on the work in Gisborne and the district. Mr. Howard Kenway, chairman of directors of the YJM.C.A., has addressed the following letter to the editor of the Herald:— "To-morrow the Y.M.C.A. conducts its annual street and house collection in Gisborne, and I am taking the liberty of asking for the publicity of your columns to make a personal appeal, as chairman of the board Ojf directors, for the practical sympathy and help of the people of this district for a cause that, I am sure, will appeal to all who have the care and welfare of the young people close to their hearts. Our work is largely voluntary, and we depend, in a very great degree, on voluntary financial help from all those who are in sympathy with us.

"We hope to add substantially from time to time to the list of those who are good enough to become 'annual sustainers,' and we express most heartily our gratitude for this very important support, but we make a yearly appeal to the general public as well, and have always met with a generous response. ,

"May I ask your readers not to forget to have some cash in their pockets and to give to us again with the same liberal response as before, so that we may carry on and extend still further our work among the young girls and bovs of Gisborne and the district.
