Britain and Czechoslovakia
Sir,—ln reply to "Citizen's" letter of Friday, I would refer him to Unloading article in the Bulletin of June 29 entitled "Reaction Against War Yelp." Let me quote from it: •Another hel'tish publication, tinNew Statesman and Nation, has belatedly discovered that the only thing to do about modern war is lo stop it, and that there is no cause that is worth this war, because there is no cause that we can serve by it. The Daily Mail campaigns against the •myopic Left Wingers' who are trying to pledge British lives and British money in the service of Czechoslovakia. The Evening Standard, harking back to Czechoslovakia, now declares that no incident was then likely to break up the peace for the decisive reason that nobody intended to make war." The Bulletin claims that "one purpose of uncabled additions is to help people in Australia to form a realistic idea of what is going on in world ■affairs, even though it might be something that most would like to feel was not going on. The items are condensed from various publications such as the London Times and Observer, and other sound publications not given to reckless trafficking in alarmist scares." It rather looks, 1 must claim, that Mr. Weston has inexcusably got into erratic company, inexcusably because, whether Britain was prepared or not to go to war for Czechoslovakia, is a most important matter, worthy of Mr. Weston's utmost efforts to arrive at the truth.—Yours, etc.. COLIN CLOUT.
