ELASTICITY WANTED
NURSES' WORKING HOURS TARANAKI APPEAL (For Pi-ess Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Fears for the future of private hospitals were expressed at a conference of representative of 12 Taranaki hospitals which discussed the new hours of work regulations. The conference passed a resolution as follow;, to be submitted to the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. 11. Watt, and the Minister of Health, the Hc.i, P. Fraser: "In view of the difficulties of securing staff and the con- I vonienee of employees, we feel that representations should 'be made to the Department of Health for more elasticity in hours, especially in the matter of meal hours 'being excluded from (lie 48-hour working week, and thai our staffs may be compensated for the extra hours' work in rush periods by (he receipt of annual holidays."
