The Marquess of Londonderry today accepted, on behalf of the New Zealander, Miss Jean Batten, the gold medal awarded by the Federation Aeronautique to Miss Batten in recognition of her achievements in flying.
Owing to the sudden illness of her mother, Miss Batten was unable to carry out her intention to fly to Berlin for the ceremony.
