WIN FOR AUSTRALIANS NORTH ISLAND 11 EATEN (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Australia beat North Island by five matches to three in the badminton test on Saturday. Australia won both the combined doubles, which was the vital point in the game, the home players giving a disappointing display. Otherwise, the teams were evently matched. There was a packed house. Details, the Australians being first: Miss Hewett lost ‘to Miss Fleming, I — 11, 1 —11; Tonkin beat Spedding, 15 —12, 15 —10; Harper and Miss Hewett beat Hawksworth and Miss Fleming, 15—7, 15 —2; Tonkin and Miss Robert beat Spedding and Mrs. Wien, 18 —14, 5 —15, 15 —7; Harper lost to Hawksworth, 15 —17, 6 —15; Miss Robert beat Mrs. Wren 11—7, 10 —12, ll 5; Harper and Tonkin lost to Hawksworth and Spedding, 5—15, 32—15; Misses Robert and Hewett beat Miss Fleming and Mrs. Wren, 15—8, 15—9.
