SATURDAY’S MATCHES
MERCANTILE WIN AGAIN THISTLE IN GOOD FORM Margins of three goals separated the winners and losers in both the senior matches sponsored by the Poverty Bay Football Association on Saturday,- results being as under:—
Mercantile 5, Wanderers 2. Thistle 5, United 2. IMPROVED DISPLAY WANDERERS V. MERCS. Showing much improved form. Wanderers gave a good display against Mercantile, and with their team now strengthened both in defence and attack, they will soon be a much harder proposition for die other teams.
Wilson, playing forward, . showed he is not a one-position man and his coolness kept the front line steady, he was unfortunate with some fine shots that narrowly missed. The team as a whole is showing more combination now, but should concentrate further on this.
Mercantile played good football, and the old Callaghan-Waugh left wing combination was in good form, showing sound understanding and positional play, while all other players were well up to standard. Goals were scored for Mercantile bv Hepburn (2), Callaghan, Allan, and Waugh; and for Wanderers by Riddicks and D. Elliott.
