OBITUARY

MR. ALAN GOOD One of Taranaki's best-known footballers and a noted athlete, Mr. Alan sood, died at Hawera this week, at he age of 70, states a Press Association message from New Plymouth, •n his later years he was a well-known farmer and a land valuer. He was an All Black, a member of he first Taranaki representative Rugby team, and one of the outstandiip runners of his time over distances from 100 yards to 440 yards. Mr. Good ,vas president of the Opunake Racing Club. *' , Born at Urenui in 1867, Mr. Good was one of four brothers, Hugh, Willie Harry, and Alan, who made names as ' footballers. Educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, he played for Taranaki from 1887 until 1899. He was one of Taranaki's first three Ah Blacks, accompanying the second New Zealand team to visit Australia in 1893 A famous figure on the running track, he put up great performances at various times as a sprinter Mr. Good was keenly interested in Rugby up to the time of his death, and toured South Africa with the 1928 All Blacks. He was also a keen racing enthusiast, and in addition to being president r.i the Opunake Racing Club he was a vice-president, committee member, and steward of the Egmont Racm'j Club.
