TE KARAKA GIRL GUIDES

ELEVENTH BIRTHDAY LONE (i TIDES PRESENT (Herald Correspondent.) Members of the Te Karaka Girl Guide Company and the Ranger Company spent a happy evening on Friday, when they met in the Parish Hall to celebrate their eleventh and fifth birthdays respectively. Rangers, under their captain, Miss L. Ruru and lieutenant. Miss E. Blott, and Guides, under their captain. Miss V. Bull, and lieutenant, Miss R. McCauley, combined to present a raried programme. An entertaining play entitled "The Advertisement" was cleverly acted by Guides Janet Russell, Norah Jones, Eileen Mills, Mavis Manuel, Marta Kingi, and June Clayton, and provoked much merriment. Gladys Jones' recitation of "Five Eyes" and a graceful poi dance by the Guide Company were warmly applauded, and games and community singing were enjoyed by all. Service Stars Presented The district commissioner. Mrs. J. G. Appleton, presented service stars and badges as follows: — Service Stars—Rita McCauley, fifth year, Celia Broughton, Norah Jones, Mavis Manuel, Eileen Mills, Janet Russell. June Clayton, Betty McKenzie, and Marta Kingi. Second Class Badge.—June Clayton.

Laundress Badge.—Rita McCauley Eileen Mills. Janet Russell, and June Clayton.

Enrolments,—Gladys Jones, Joy Clayden, Olive Clayden, Audrey Mills, and Racy Burgess. In addition. Janet Russell was invested a leader.

A pleasing feature of the gathering was the attendance of four Lone Guides. Barbara Dymock, Azalea Edmonds, Ru'h and Lorna Rowley, this being the first occasion they were able to attend a Guide birthday party.

A delicious supper was provided by members of the committee. The beautiful birthday cake, made by Mrs. F. M. Clayton, was cut by Freda Hodge and Rita McCauley. the Ranger and the Guide, with the longest service in her company.

A succesful sale of work organised by the Te Karaka Girl Guide Committee was held in the Parish Hall, Te Karaka, last week. Generous donations by residents of the district enabled the committee to make a good display of clothing, produce, cakes, and sweets. The sellers, under the leadership of Mrs. F. M. Clayton, did excellent work and as a result the Guide funds will be augmented considerably.

A meeting of the Te Karaka Ranger Company was held in the Parish Hall. The captain, Miss L. Ruru. gave an instructive resume of the ranger conference which she attended in Wellington recently.
