CHILDERS ROAD RESERVE FIVE AREAS AVAILABLE COUNCIL RESPONSIBILITY A charge of £9 per ground, plus an additional £1 when special preparation is required for representative games, is to be charged the hockey and football associations for the use of live grounds on the CPritders Road Reserve, the council also to receive 38.', per cent of the gross stand takings.' This was agreed to by the Gisborne Borough. Council last night, "when a report was received from the reserves committee, which received a deputation from the two sports bodies concerned, the deputation asking the council to-maintain the grounds'and charge each association a rental per ground that would be within its limited finances.
"It was pointed out to the deputation that it was impossible to get Jive full-sized .grounds .on the reserve," the report, stated. "The sports bodies' representatives intimated that full-sized grounds were not essential for club matches, but only for representative matches. When the ground was required for a representative match, a mutual agreement wotdd be entered into between the two associations.
"Your committee discussed at length the matter of maintaining the playing fields, and recommend the council to assume this responsibility, and in order to do so efficiently and economically, a tractor and set of gang mowers should be purchased, the engineer to obtain Quotations. This equipment also will be used for the maintenance of the Botanical Gardens and riverbanks. and will considerably reduce the cost of such work.
"The hockey and soccer associations are to be charged a rental of £9 each per ground for the current season, the marking of the grounds to be undertaken by the respective associations In the event of the grounds requiring special preparation for a representative match, an additional £1 per ground is to be charged, and where a charge is made for admission to the grandstand on the occasion of matches, other than club matches, the council to receive 33J, per cent of the gross stand takings."
