SHIPS DELAYED

EASTERLY GALE HOMEBOAT PUTS TO SKA Shipping on trie East Coast of the North' Island has been disorganised as a result of the easterly gale and in practically every instance boats trading to Gisborne have been delayed. There are two Home boats on this part of the coast at present, the Westmoreland, which was to start loading at Tokomaru Bay this morning, and the Port Sydney, which has been loading at Gisborne for London. At 10 p.m. yesterday, the Port Sydney weighed anchor and left the bay, and she was still steaming up and down the Coast this morning. The Gisborne signal station kept in touch with her at intervals by the ship-to-shore telephone and at 8.15 a.m. the vessel was 25 miles south, oft Table Cape.

The Port Sydney was not able to resume work' at Gisborne to-day, while the Westmoreland was similarly held up at Tokomaru Bay. Auckland Traders Both the Auckland traders, the Margaret W. and Pukeko, have been seriously delayed by rain at the northern port. They were to have sailed last evening, but neither had completed loading. A report from Auckland this morning indicated that weather conditions were even worse than yesterday. The Pukeko will be delayed two days, reaching Gisborne on Saturday, while the movements of the Margaret W.weren ot definitely known locally this morning. She is expected here towards the end of the week.

Other ships affected by the wet weather tire the Awahou and the Totara, which were discharging at Gisborne and Tokomaru Bay to-day, between showers.
