The fact that it would be impossible to introduce legislation providing for revision of taxation during the life of the present Parliament was revealed by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, in his report to the recent Labour Party conference as chairman of the Policy Committee.

A ballast train left Napier on Friday with men to make a start on repairing the damage caused by the flood to the railway track to Wairoa. These men will continue up the line as far as the Eskdalc railway bridge, which was washed away during the flood. After stating that it would be some time before traffic would be resumed on the East Coast line, Mr. G. T. Lawson, stationmaster at Napier, added that none of the departments officers had inspected the line past the railway bridge, and as far as the condition of the line north ol the bridge was concerned the officers had not been able to ascertain the amount or damage.
