AMBASSADOR RESIGNING

AMERICAN IN BERLIN

NAZI POLITICS DISLIKED

(Rec. Dec. 9, 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 8,

A message from Berlin states that the United States Ambassador to Berlin, Mr. W. E. Dodd, will resign on January 1.

Mr. R. Wilson, the United States' Ambassador to Switzerland, will succeed him.

The Washington correspondent of the New York Times, commenting on Mr. Dodd's resignation, says it has been apparent for some time that he was uncomfortable in Berlin, due partly to divergent views with Nazi politics. Coincidentally, there has been a manifest coolness in the relations between the two countries. Not only has Mr. Dodd taken occasion during public addresses to praise democracy, but he has strongly opposed American Embassy representation at Nuremburg.

Further reports state that Mr. Dodd, in addition to protesting against his Charge 'd Affaires attending the Nuremburg rally disclosed a lack of sympathy with the Nazi regime during vacation speeches in America, though it is not believed that Germany made any representations on the matter.
