SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting Of the Patutahi School Committee was held recently, there being present Mr. T. W. Sewell, chairman, Messrs. E. Schroder, C. McGrannachan and A. Waddell. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. R. Atkins and J. Clachcr. Accounts amounting to 10s 9d were passed for payment. Owing to difficulty of transport, the milk scheme cannot yet be commenced at the school. The thanks of the committee are due to the Rev. Nigel Williams for the instructive address given to the children on the life and customs of the inhabitants of Singapore. Correspondence was received from the Hawke’s Bay Education Bbard referring to the appointment of an additional teacher on the school staff. Final arrangements were made for the annual picnic on Thursday, December IG, for which several offers of special prizes had been received. The rainfall for November in the Patutahi district totalled 1.70 in. Rain fell bn seven days, the greatest fall being on November 24, when .91 in. was registered. In November of last year 4.84 in. was recorded. A garden party and sale of work in aid of St. George’s Anglican Church will be held at the home of Mrs. O. Thodey, Lavenham, on Saturday afternoon. Work and ice cream stalls and a Christmas tree for the children will be popular attractions. A small admission charge, which will include afternoon tea, will be made.
