There was a small entry of 110 head of spring lambs, which sold from lid per lb. to nearly 12d. The market could have taken more. Close on 5000 head of fat sheep were yarded. HASTINGS QUOTATIONS CATTLE FROM GISBORNE STORE SHEEP PRICES UP (Pur Press Association.) HASTINGS, this day. With an entry of exceptional quality numbering 150, including many from Gisborne, the market for fat cattle was fully firm at yesterday’s stock sale at otortford Lodge. Passings were infrequent, the bulk of die entry selling readily at rates at full parity with last week. A double market was held at the sale yesterday, there being no sale next Wednesday because of the Spring Show. The quality of the entry generally showed an improvement on recem sales, there being some particularly fine drafts of station cattle, well bred and finished, on offer. Competent stockmen were of opinion that the entry was the best this year for quality, the majority of the cattle being of prime finish. A big draft Of Gisborne cattle arrived by rail on account of Hair Bros. Gisborne, and sold at prices ranging from £ls to £l9 ss. These cattle, all dehorned Ilerefords, met with a brisk mquiry and all met the market. A particularly good entry was a draft of P.A. heifers, down by lorry from Turihaua, Gisborne, on account of Mr. H. B. Williams, which met with exceptionally keen inquiry, selling at £l7 10s and £l7.

Store cattle met with a quiet sale, an entry of some 900 head being yarded. Sideling was restrained, and buyers were apparently not prepared to go above certain limits. In consequence, there were a number of passings. Toung cattle were principally on offer .vith a number of useful lines of two-year-olds meeting with quite a good demand. The sale, however, was not a spirited one, and until the weather breaks and more rain falls it will probably remain quiet. Only a moderate entry of approxinately 3500 store sheep came forward. Bidding was good, particularly on hoggets in the wool, and good sales were effected at prices on a parity with recent sales.

Fat sheep values showed a distinct advance. A moderate entry came forward. Butchers competed strongly, and prices rose as much as 4s a head on prime sorts. FRANKTON VALUES STORE CATTLE DEMAND At the Frankton sale on Tuesday a full yarding of all classes of fat sheep came forward, including many pens of prime quality sheep. An extra heavy yarding of all classes of cattle was penned. Competition for ox beef was steady, and a total clearance was effected at rates on a par with last week. MATAWHERO CATTLE FAIR TOTAL OFFERING, 5530 The total offering of all classes of stock at the two days oi the Matawhero Cattle Fair was 5530, as compared with 4350 at the September fair. Although values in the two-year heifer class were maintained, fhe condition of this part of the yarding was in most cases unattractive. The market was easier for Jersey store cows.
