DISPUTE IN COALFIELDS

POSSIBLE EXTENSION NEW SOUTH WALES MOVE NEGOTIATIONS FAIL (Elec. Tel. Copyright—" United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 13, 12 noon) SYDNEY, Oct. 13. Further trouble on the coalfields throughout New South Wales is threatened because of the apparent failure of the compulsory conference convened by the Industrial Commission to discuss the proposals for a settlement of the strikes at the Broken Hill Proprietary's collieries, John Darling and Burwood. The union leaders state that although the negotiations have not been concluded a deadlock has been reached and the council of the Miners' Federation to-day will discuss plans for extending the dispute. The council will discuss proposals to with, hold coal supplies from the steel works of the Broken Hill Proprietary at Port Kembla and Newcastle by calling a strike in 4i«l collieries which supply the Broken Hill Proprietary with coal. Such a move would not only render idle many collieries now working, buf would also cause a serious dislocation of work at the steel works.
