ROAD ACCIDENT TOLL
NEARLY 600 DEATHS MONTH IN BRITAIN LONDON, Oct. 12. Deaths in Britain in September as a result of road accidents numbered 583. This shows an increase of 16 compared with September of last year. The totals for 1937 so far were: Dead, 4821; injured, 170,397. The fatalities on roads where a speed limit is enforced were more than three times greater than on roads where there is no speed limit. As a protest against the lack of safety traffic signals, mothers arid children to-day formed a living barrier across a roadway in North Kensington, London, thus forcing the traffic to stop.
