GUN BATTLE IN STREET
TWO GANGSTERS KILLED AMMUNITION RAID PLOT NET SPREAD BY POLICE [Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn. (Reed. Oct. 13, noon) NEW YORK, Oct. 12. A Bangorme message states that two gangsters were killed and one Gman was wounded in a spectacular gun battle in a street imperilling and routing pedestrians and motorists en route to work. The dead are Alfred Brady, who was accused of slaying two Indiana policemen, and Clarence Shaffer, a confederate. : The G-man, Walter Walsh, was sent to a hospital with a wound in his chest. The G-men had been informed that the gangsters intended to seize ammunition from a shop. The G-men hid themselves in the. vicinity apd surrounded the gangsters, who fired when ordered to surrender. .... > : , Brady, a so-called new Dillinger, had terrorised Indiana for months by committing a series of robberies and murders.
