This action was taken in response to a letter from the New Zealand district governor, Rotarian F. The Shanghai club has cabled: ‘We need money, which can be telegraphed to the National City Bank, Shanghai. Food and clothing can be obtained locally. Emergency medical supplies arc wanted. If steamers refuse Shanghai shipments, ship care Rotary Club, Hongkong. District Governor and Red Cross concur. Clubs desiring to. respond to appeal should do so direct to Shanghai Club.’ ” In the course of his letter, the New Zealand district governor suggested that the matter should be placed before the Gisborne club for consideration and for any action that might be thought appropriate. The Dunedin club had decided to cable £25. Dealing with the suggestion, the Gisborne president, Rotarian 11. F. Forster, stated that the directors already had considered the proposal, and since the funds were in a fairly healthy condition, it was recommended that £lO be dispatched from the Gisborne club to assist the Shanghai club’s splendid work. The recommendation was adopted unanimously, and it was suggested further that Poverty Bay residents outside the membership of the club might wish to assist, and could do so through Rotary channels.
