Wigan
The Wigan Women's Institute held its September meeting at Mrs. J. L. Keeves' home. A large attendance of members was presided over by the president, Mrs. Cranswick. Miss Enid Reeves was welcomed as a new member. Two visitors were Miss Lois Matthews and Miss C Atkinson.
The meeting opened with the aspiration, followed by the institute song, accompanied by Miss Jean Donaid on the piano.
Mrs. R. Craill gave a very interesting demonstration of flowers made from wood fibre, several beautiful sprays of different flowers being displayed. After the demonstration the completed spray of roses was presented to Mrs. Reeves by Mrs. Craill.
The. word-building competition resulted:—Miss D. Craill, 1; Mrs. Craill, 2. Both received dainty prizes from Mrs. Reeves. The competition for a dress costing not more than 5s resulted:—Miss N. McNeil, 1; Mrs. War burton, 2; Miss J. Donald, 3. Best bloom from garden:—Miss Nancy McNeil, 1; Mrs. J. Bartram, 2; Miss Helen Bartram, 3.
A dainty afternoon tea provided by all members was served, after which Mrs. Atkinson delighted all with one of her popular songs.
