HOCKEY COMPETITIONS
THE WINNERS DECLARED FURTHER NAPIER TRIPS CARROLL SHIELD QUERY The Poverty Bay Hockey Association's championship competitions were declared closed bv the management committee at a meeting last night, and t|ie winners declared as follows: Senior men.—Caledonian. Junior men—High School A. Schoolboys.—Marist. Ladies.—Coronation: It was reported that no reply had been received, from the Ruahine association to a Poverty Bay telegram last week regarding Ruahine s challenge for the Lady Carroll Shield, and it was decided that if no reply was received bv to-day to a further urgent message, arrangements should be made for other games on Saturday, among which would be sanction to the Coronation team to travel to Napier to play the ladies' competition winners there.
It was decided to try and make an effort to send a junior representative team to Napier on Saturday, if sufficient transport could be secured. On more car would be required to be found by to-night, otherwise he association would be compelled to caneel the trip. Junior representative plavers chosen to travel, if arrangements were completed, were announced as follows:-Thomson, captain Lawton, vice-captain Olsen 1 ills, Corbett, Kane, Clifford, Crotheis Watt, Badham, Halbert, Cox and Harris. Mr. G. Corbett was appointed manager.
me last meeting of the management committee for the season was fixed for September 20, when delegates are also being invited to be Present to make arrangements for a suitable function for the presentation or trophies. ________
