LIFTING OF BARRIERS MR. SEMPLE'S APPEAL CANBERRA, July 15. Speaking at a luncheon given by the Commonwealth Government to Mr. R. Semple, the New Zealand Minister of Public Works and Transport, Dr. Earle Page, the acting-Prime Minister of Australia, said that within a comparatively few months flyingboats would bring Sydney closer by air to Auckland than Canberra was to Sydney.
Dr. Page said he would like to see closer collaboration between the Australian and New Zealand Governments in order to escape the traditional idea that the only place where Australian and New Zealand delegations might meet for full-dress discussions was in London.
Mr. Semple, in acknowledging the welcome, said that the New Zealand Government was ready to meet representatives of the Commonwealth to discuss trade difficulties. He emphasised that the artificial barriers against satisfactory trade between the two Dominions should be broken down. ______
