The rainfall for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on 'Thursday totalled .75in., recorded by Mr. C. O. Mackay, Te Putaputa, Ohinepaka Valley. The five-year plan on which the Wairoa County engineer lias been engaged for some time on behalf of the Government, and which may be adopted by the council in August, in all probability will mean an expenditure of about £150,000.

During the past month 11 vessels worked Waikokopu. The port was unworkable for nine days. Robinson, who formerly, carried on a very successful drapery business in Napier in the early days, died recently at his home in Omahu road. Remuera, Auckland, aged 03 years. Ills wile pre-deceased him a few months ago. The deceased was a man of fine character and greatly loved by all who knew him. In the early days he was a frequent visitor to Wairoa, assisting the pastor and the Presbyterian Church in their concerts. Mr. R. A. Peez, secretary of the Wairoa Hospital Board, left recently to attend a meeting in Palmerston North of the executive officers of the Hospital Boards' Association in the southern half of the North Island. —Mr. A. M. Harvey-Smith, of the Public Works Department, Napier, arrived yesterday on transfer to the clerical department of the Wairoa branch.

I At the Wairoa County Council's I meeting on Wednesday the health inspector, Mr. 'R. W. Pomare, reported that during the past month there had been no cases of infectious disease in the county. A total of 53 inspections had been made and 10 i requisitions served.
