STAKES INCREASED

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB MANY LIMITS REDUCED Taking the view that no race should be of ies.s value than £2OO, the Auckland Trotting Club has drafted the programme for its August meeting, and £1775 has been allocated for eight races. In every event an increase has been made over the slakes of last August, which totalled £1375, with a £25 trophy. Provision has been made for one race each for novice trotters and pacers, and in all other races the limits have been shortened. The principal events are the August Handicap, of £3OO with a 4.36 limit, against 4.40 last year, and Hie Massey Memorial Handicap, of £225, limit 2.48, against 2.51. The Royal Oak Handicap for trotters has been tightened two seconds to 4.51, with a stake of £225. Following is the programme, that of last August being shown in parenthesis: — Introductory Handicap, trotters only, of £2OO, limit 3.49. U miles (£135. 3.49); Mount. Eden Handicap, of £2OO, limit 3.5, 1J miles (£135, 3.5): August Handicap, of £3OO, limit 4.36. two miles (£275, inc. £25 trophy, 4.40): Grey Lynn Handicap, of £2OO, limit 3.38, li miles (£l5O, 3.40); Royal Oak Handicap, trotters only, of £225, limit 4.51, two miles (£175, 4.53); Onehunga Handicap, of £225, limit 3.30, U miles (£l7O, 3.31); Orakei Handicap, of £2OO, limit 3.34, U miles (£l6O, 3.30); Massey Memorial Handicap, of £225. limit 2.48, 1| miles (£2OO, 2.51).
