TE KARAKA NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) Arrangements are being made for the annual drama festival organised by the Poverty Bay Federation of Women’s Institutes, to be held in the Waikohu Hall, Te Karaka, at the end of this month. Five one-act plays will be staged, entries having been received from Patutahi, Ormond, Matawai, Motu and Ruatoria Women’s Institutes. The committee lias been fortunate in securing the services of Miss Ellen Millar, Gisborne, as adjudicator, and Mr. A. J. Nicol as stage manager. There was a fair attendance at the Parish Hall last night when the Te Karaka branch of the New Zealand Plunkel Society held a flag fivehundred evening to augment its funds. Keen competition was displayed between the various tables, the prize-winners being Mesdames J. G. Appleton and Charles Mills, Miss J. Kyne and Mr. H. Allan. Other prizes were awarded to Mesdames J. W. Nisbett and M. Brown, and Messrs Wilkins and Walsh. At the close of the games a dainty supper was served bv members of the committee.
