LUCKY DRAW

DOMINION CRICKETERS MATCH WITH YORKSHIRE LAST MAN SEES OUT TIME DONNELLY’S FINE SCORE (From the Special Representative of the United Press Association.) (Reed. July 14, 11.30 a.m.) LEEDS, July 13. The New Zealand cricketers were fortunate in being able to secure a draw against Yorkshire. The county declared with six wickets down for 207 and New Zealand’s last man was in when stumps were drawn, the score being 203 for nine wickets.

The feature of the match was the splendid display by the New Zealand colt, Donnelly, who missed a century by only three runs.

Donnelly’s delightful innings made memorable New Zealand’s fight for a draw after an advantageous declaration by Yorkshire. The young lefthander dominated the play, scoring 97 out of 139 made, while he was batting.

Donnelly played accurately, varying his attack with confidence and discretion. His scoring strokes were crisp and clean,- especially his hooks and cuts. He was dismissed in try-

ing to hook an extra fast ball. He batted for 2£ hours, his innings being a fine blending of steadiness and enterprise. His score included 16 fours. Five Out Leg Before The dead weight of a bad start and the again burdensome handicap of five more added to the already huge list of leg before dismissals, intensified the tourists’ discomfiture.

Page defended dourly for an hour and a-half.

Bowes and Smailes made effective use of both the first and second new balls.

Tindill and Cowie stubbornly stonewalled for nearly half an hour against the vimful bowling, thus saving the match.

Yorkshire in their second innings encountered vigorous bowling. Tindill was particularly brisk. Not only was he responsible for some fine stumping, but he made a great onehanded catch high overhead.

Donnelly also took a one-handed catch off his own bowling. Vivian and Wallace made spectacular catches on the boundary.
