RESEARCH IN ANTARCTIC
WILKINS MAKING PLANS EXPEDITION NEXT YEAR SYDNEY, July 13. The Canberra correspondent of the Sydney Sun says that an expedition to the Australian sector of the Antarctic next year is planned by Sir Hubert Wilkins, with the object of obtaining data which will induce the Commonwealth Government to establish. at least, two permanent stations for scientific research in the Antarctic.
Sir Hubert Wilkins hopes to command an expedition by submarine to the Antarctic early next year and in October he aims to leave Capetown for Enderby Land, returning to Perth in March, 1939,
Great seams of coal exist in the Australian sector and the presence of minerals is likely, he says.
