CHILDERS ROAD RESERVE
USE AS PLAYING AREA EXTRA GROUND ASKED FOR The reserves committee of the Gisborne Borough Council was deputed at last night's meeting of the council to meet representatives of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association and the Poverty Bay Football Association on the matter of the futlire control of the Childers Road Reserve, which at present is leased to the two sports bodies named. The Hockey Association and Football Association wrote pointing out that the lease of the reserve would conclude this year, when the grandstand, which was erected by the two associations, would become the council's property. Through lack of finance the associations had not been able to maintain the grounds as well as they would have liked, but they had done their best under the circumstances. Because of an increased number of players participating in the two sports, the total reaching about 350, a further ground was necessary. A fifth ground could be provided by a rearrangement of the existing four, and representatives of the two associations asked permission to confer with the reserves committee on the matter. The matter was referred to the reserves committee.
