THE BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGFITLY MEETING The Gisborne Borough Council met last night. The deputy-Mayor, Cr. H. Holmes, presided, and there were also present Crs. G. Bradley Smith, J. Webb, D. S. Thompson, J. H. Hall, H. E. Maude, P. W. Bushnell and N. 11. Bull.

The Director-General, Department of Agriculture, wrote submitting a draft bill seeking to provide new methods of slaughtering of animals in freezing works and abattoirs. — The matter was referred to the abattoirs Committee. The Kaiti School Committee.wrote asking the council to receive a deputation to discuss the matter of the drain at the school entrance. —It was decided that the committee would receive the deputation. Messrs. Grant and Codke sought approval for subdivisional plans at Kaiti (Miss Witty), in the town (Presbyterian Church trustees), and in Whataupoko (Mr. Richard Carr). —The applications were granted.

REPORTS Works Committee In its report the works committee slated:— “Quotations were received for the supply of one five-seater motor car, less trade-in allowance, and the committee recommends the acceptance of the lowest net quotation, that of the Ford Motor Company, Wellington. “Contemplated works.—A list of contemplated works for the fortnight was submitted by the engineer, the principal works being the maintenance of metal and gravel roads, and the cleaning of open drains and trimming of footpaths, etc."
